Community-Led Energy Solutions

Powering Communities.
Reducing Costs. Building a Fair Energy Future.

Equipower works with underserved communities across the UK to reduce energy costs, improve sustainability, and build long-term community resilience through practical, community-led energy solutions.

Why Now

The UK is facing a convergence of urgent challenges:

  • Rising energy costs continue to place households and community organisations under sustained financial pressure
  • Millions of households remain in fuel poverty, living in inefficient homes with high energy bills
  • Community buildings are struggling to remain operational due to increasing energy costs
  • National net zero and retrofit programmes are accelerating, but delivery at community level is not keeping pace

This is not just an energy issue it is a cost-of-living, health, and inequality issue.

Without immediate, targeted action, these pressures will deepen existing inequalities and place further strain on already vulnerable communities.

The Delivery Gap

Despite significant national investment in energy and sustainability:

  • Many programmes do not effectively reach underserved communities
  • Engagement models are often top-down and not community-led
  • There is a lack of trusted intermediaries who can translate policy into practical, local action
  • Communities most affected by fuel poverty are often least able to access support, funding, or advice

As a result:

  • Funding does not always translate into real, local impact
  • Uptake of energy programmes remains uneven
  • Communities remain excluded from the benefits of the energy transition

Why Equipower Exists

Equipower exists to address this delivery gap.

Across the UK, many communities particularly Black-led and underserved organisations—face structural barriers in accessing affordable and sustainable energy.

These barriers are shaped by:

  • Historical underrepresentation in the environmental sector
  • Lack of culturally relevant services and engagement approaches
  • Limited access to training, funding, and participation pathways
  • Disproportionate exposure to fuel poverty and energy inefficiency

At the same time, there is clear evidence that these communities are actively seeking to engage in sustainability but require trusted, community-led pathways to do so.

Equipower provides that pathway.

We ensure communities are not left behind in the transition to a low-carbon future by placing them at the centre of delivery, not the margins.
